Dallas and the Park Cities
Hacienda furniture for Dallas and Park Cities homes
Highland Park Village, the Park Cities' Spanish Colonial Revival shopping center from about 1930, drew in part on San Antonio's French and Spanish markets of the time. Our San Antonio showroom carries the carved wood, iron and copper that suit houses of that era. Here is how to choose, and how to shop from Dallas.
The Park Cities
A Spanish Colonial Revival lineage
Highland Park Village, listed in the National Register, was designed by Marion Fooshee and James Cheek as a modified Spanish Colonial Revival center. The Handbook of Texas says Fooshee's firm was noted for its Spanish Colonial designs, and the architects drew on buildings in Spain, Mexico and southern California.
Not every Park Cities house is Spanish. Preservation Park Cities counts homes built in 1926 among a wave of Spanish Revival, Colonial Revival and Tudor designs. The furniture should follow the house.
- Spanish Colonial Revival room: carved wood, wrought iron, copper and a scrollwork mirror.
- Colonial Revival or Tudor room: one hacienda piece as an accent, such as a mirror or console.
- Older houses: measure doorways and stairs before choosing case goods.
