Furnishing a room built around its trim
The City of Corpus Christi describes Heritage Park as a historic park where several Victorian-style homes now stand, and many of its 11 houses are recorded Texas historical landmarks. Up the coast, Fulton Mansion State Historic Site keeps an 1877 Victorian villa with a mansard roof, ornate trim and, for its day, gas lighting inside.
Victorian rooms were made for detail, so plain slab furniture can look unfinished in them. A carved mirror, a table with a rope or turned edge and a chandelier with some scrollwork carry the trim into the furniture. Keep it to one dark carved piece per wall so the woodwork still shows.
