Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch
Rustic furniture for Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch homes
Our showroom on Loop 1604 is about half an hour from Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch without traffic, close enough to look, measure and come back. This guide covers Boerne's historic limestone houses, homes on former ranch land and how to plan a visit.
Boerne's historic houses
Furnishing a limestone Texas German house
Boerne's historic design guidelines describe how its oldest houses were built. The first were log houses; then came German heavy timber framing, pegged and cross-braced, often filled with local limestone. The Texas German vernacular house is limestone with a side-gabled roof and a full front porch, and houses grew by extending the rectangle, building up or adding a lean-to. Sunday houses were smaller still: one or two rooms with a loft, often reached by an outside stair.
A house that began with one or two rooms rewards a few strong pieces over a full suite. Not every house in the district is German stone, either: the guidelines list 16 styles, Queen Anne and Craftsman among them, where a single carved or copper piece works as an accent.
- Measure stairs, especially a loft stair, and every doorway before choosing case goods.
- Side tables, benches and mirrors add character without crowding a small room.
- Ask about the dimensions of any piece with XL or XXL in its name before you plan around it.

Fair Oaks Ranch
A ranch that became a neighborhood
Fair Oaks Ranch began as a 5,000-acre ranch that Ralph E. Fair Sr. assembled in the 1930s, first for racehorses and then cattle, with a dairy, a granary and a registered Hereford herd. From 1975, part of the ranch was developed as a residential community, first sold as ranchettes of 5 acres and 10 to 12 acres, and the Fair home became a country club.
On land with that history, ranch pieces feel earned rather than themed, as long as they are used sparingly: one ranch reference per room, such as a saddle stool, a longhorn mirror or a cowhide chair, set against plain wood or hacienda case goods.
